| What do all the different initials behind a REALTOR®'s name mean?
Well, besides the literal meaning of the designations it means that this person is a dedicated professional determined to improve his or her professional skills. They have devoted time and energy to attending advanced educational classes and taking examinations to earn these designations.
Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR)
The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR®) designation is held by more than 9,000 REALTORS® who work as buyer's agents. A buyer's agent represents the buyer in a real estate transaction for a fee, just as a seller's agent is hired to obtain the price and sale terms sought by the seller. A buyer's agent is hired to get the best possible price and terms for the buyer. Buyer agency assistance also may include helping the buyer obtain legal assistance to review proposed contracts or structural inspectors to examine the property. ABR® designees complete a two-day intensive course that covers the legalities and issues surrounding representation as a buyer's agent, and must pass a written exam upon completion of the course.
Certified Residential Specialist (CRS)
CRS designees complete advanced study in residential listing and selling to meet established production levels. The CRS is the designation of the Council of Residential Specialists.
e-Certified
This designation is awarded by Prudential Real Estate and Relocation solutions for the demonstration of superior expertise in the use of the Internet for communications and eCommerce.
Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI)
Members involved in residential real estate who want a solid base of information for their practice want to participate in the REALTOR® Institute program and earn the GRI designation.
Seniors Residential Specialist (SRES)
SRES® is the only designation and marketing program specifically designed to serve senior property owners. SRES® designees demonstrate requisite knowledge and expertise to counsel senior clients through the major financial and lifestyle transitions involved in relocating, refinancing, or selling a home.
