Nestled near the U.S.-Canadian border, Lynden, Washington, with its proud Dutch heritage, is one of Whatcom County's most popular tourist destinations, as well as the hub of a thriving agricultural community of dairy and berry farms.

 

 

 

Lynden, population nearly 12,000, is known for its well-maintained homes, a showcase public library, excellent public and private K-12 schools, and a large church presence. Local facilities include a community theatre, a large and very unique pioneer museum, a small airport, and the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds.

Along with the Northwest Washington Fair, which attracts more than 200,000 visitors the third week of August every year, the fairgrounds provide facilities for a wide variety of other events and activities, from home, antique, and toy shows, to RV rallies, rodeos, and an old-time plowing match featuring some of the region's famous draft horses.

Annual festivals include Holland Days, a Raspberry Festival, a Harvest Festival, a pre-Christmas appearance of Sinterklaas (the Dutch Santa), a Lighted Christmas Parade, Lynden in Lights (lighted holiday home displays), a Farmers' Day Parade, and an old-time Threshing Bee and Antique Tractor Show.

For golfers, Lynden is home to the Homestead Farms Golf Resort & Convention Center, one of the Pacific Northwest's premier 18 hole courses. A five-minute drive from downtown, is Raspberry Ridge, a popular nine-hole, par 34 course. Ten other golf courses are within a 30 minute drive.

Located along the Guide Meridian Road, about 20 miles north of Bellingham, Lynden is one of the fastest growing communities in Whatcom County. The Guide Meridian is a major thoroughfare of traffic traveling between Bellingham and the Canadian border. Birch Bay and Blaine are approximately 15 miles west. Sumas, population 1,191, is about 20 minutes away via Badger Road. Everson is about 15 minutes away. Mt. Baker, with its popular ski and snowboard slopes, is approximately 45 minutes away.
There are a number of beautiful housing developments in the Lynden area, as well as working farms and other unique land properties.
